Business...that's what we're really here about isn't it? Or is it? We all interact in some manner, with some form of business. We work to gather the resources to provide for our needs, whether we're the consumer or the provider, often willing or not. The business of the world revolves around commerce, which means it's about money. Money is the common unit used to measure our resources and conduct trade, which are the fundamental aspects of business. We all need money, our companies and institutions need it, our government needs it, our families need it in order to be provided for... 

...and I start thinking about my family & friends, and things I'd like to do--for myself and for others, the resources needed to do those things, and all the things at the top of my list, and there's always one thing that you have to juggle to get to any of the things on that list.........       Time.       Time is a finite resource, there's only so much to go around. I know I'm going to run out of it.  I only get so much, you only get so much, and our companies and institutions only get so much of it from us...so it must be used wisely. Saving time is an issue of efficiency and decision making. If I save time completing one task or project, I can apply those resources to another task or project thus becoming more efficient and inherently more productive...trying to create some time to look at the list.

The human species now has more leisure time than at any time in our history. We have gained this time over many centuries through the evolution of technology--from stone tools to grid computing. We are a very intelligent, imaginative, and innovative species, those are our strengths. We have used this creativity to develop the tools and technology needed to solve our problems and improve our processes, which has allowed us the time to think about our other needs and wants, or in some cases to solve the problems created by some previous solution...but we always seem to find a way.

Today, we all have a common problem, or task, or in some cases pain...   Data.  Data storage, data manipulation, data transfer, data integration, data security--we even have data about our data, and we must deal with it in order to participate in the world. You've heard it before--information is everywhere. We have a growing digital record of our lives, which is a product of the time in which we live. Our companies and institutions use information to be more efficient, more productive...they need this data, it's vital to their operation, they have lots of it, they're getting lots more, they're accessing it more often, and it's taking more of our time. As the caretakers of information, we need somewhere reliable to keep it, somewhere that will grow in scale with our needs, and where we can get to it quickly if we need it. We must also be able to move it quickly, reliably and securely from place to place, and we must be able to manipulate it to solve our problems or enhance our operations. Technology solutions are needed that will make this job more manageable and efficient and allow us to use our resources...our time, to do other things...to look at the list.
